Workshop: Internationalisation as a threat

LATE IMPERIAL CHINA AND MODERN DAY EUROPE

Interdisciplinary Workshop at the University of Bergen, December 2nd 2011

Auditorium 4, Faculty of Law (Dragefjellet), 09.00-15.00

Reactions to internationalisation and xenophobia are some of the most pressing issues of our time. This workshop aims to create a meeting place for those with a shared interest in furthering our understanding of reactions to internationalisation as a historical as well as a contemporary phenomenon. The invited speakers are all internationally renowned scholars, who have been purposely invited to share their in-depth knowledge and cutting edge research. Although late imperial China and contemporary Europe are far apart in space and time, the reactions to increased internationalisation also offer obvious similarities as they unfolded within contexts of accelerating globalisation, increased cultural pluralism and amplified economic integration. Each presentation will last for 30 minutes, followed by 15 minutes of open floor discussion:
